Remembrance
Each year on 11th November and on the nearest Sunday, we remember those who gave their lives in war and conflict.
We pray for the fallen, for veterans, and for all who suffer the consequences of war and violence. Through worship, silence, the wearing of poppies and other acts of remembrance, we honour the sacrifice of past generations while reaffirming the Christian hope of peace, reconciliation and eternal life.
Remembrance is both an act of gratitude and a solemn commitment to work for a more just and peaceful world.
Remembrance Sunday 8th November 2026
In preparation for this year’s Remembrance services, we have been asked by the Yateley and Hawley Branch of The Royal British Legion if we could knit or crochet poppies and display them on the hedge at the corner of Holy Trinity Church.
If you can help, please find the knitting pattern below.
Please bring your poppies in to Holy Trinity Church any morning between 10am – 12noon before the first week in October.

| Pattern Using red DK yarn cast on 72 stitches. Rows 1-8 knit Using black DK yarn Rows 9-11 knit 2 stitches together across the row (9 stitches remain). Cut yarn leaving a tail of about 15cm. Thread tail through remaining 9 stitches and pull tight so that there is no hole in the middle. Sew seam together using matching yarn. Sew in ends. | Pattern Using red DK yarn chain 49 (the last stitch is the turning chain). Work 4 rows double crochet. Using black DK yarn Next row: DC 2 stitches together all along row (24sts) Repeat previous row (12sts). Cut yarn leaving 15cm tail. Thread yarn onto sewing needle and thread through 12 stitches and pull tight. Sew seams together. Sew in ends. |
