Communion music
This week we shall be listing to “The Beatitudes” by Benedict Sheehan (b. 1980), performed by The Saint Tikhon Choir.
The Beatitudes form the opening section (Matthew 5.1–12) of Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount. Sheehan – the son of American parents who had converted to Orthodoxy – composed his “Liturgy of St John Chrysostom”, of which this is the fifth movement, in 2018. The whole work is a setting of the most commonly used Eucharistic Liturgy of the Orthodox Church.
